Our Story
The vision and commitment behind Casa Mabbua began in 2019, when several current members of the Mabbua Board of Directors were actively supporting a rural foster home in Tesistán, Jalisco, Mexico. They participated in social activities with the children and their families from nearby communities—organizing sports events, distributing toys and clothing, spending quality time with the children, and sharing valuable lessons.
In 2019, for reasons not entirely clear, the foster home closed its doors and the children returned to their guardians—some to remote areas, others to urban settings. Nevertheless, the contact with the children and families continued, and support activities evolved into new forms.
In early 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began, volunteer teams were formed, and basic food items were collected to create care packages for families. That same December, a Christmas event was held, including a festive dinner, a traditional play (pastorela), and toy donations for the children.
Following the event, the mothers were gathered and presented with the proposal to continue the project as a foster home, offering long-term support for their children.
After this conversation, in early 2021, a team was formed to develop the ideas and lay the groundwork for what would become Casa Mabbua. Throughout that year, work focused on the legal foundation needed to formally establish the home.
In early November 2021, the first interviews with mothers were conducted to gather specific information about the children for that year’s Christmas event, along with general data about the families.
In December, another Christmas celebration took place, following the same format: each child received a full set of clothing, shoes, and toys. In total, 17 children were supported—9 girls and 8 boys, between the ages of 2 and 12.
In January 2022, a second meeting with the mothers was held to follow up on the enrollment process.
By April 2022, Casa Mabbua officially opened its doors and began fulfilling its mission to care for, support, and monitor the well-being of the children and adolescents entrusted to its care.
